Canaima GNU / Linux is an open socio-technological project built collaboratively, focusing on the development of tools and productive models based on Information Technology (IT) Free software and operating systems which aims to build national capacity, endogenous development , ownership and promotion of free knowledge, without losing their original cause: building a technologically prepared Venezuelan nation.
Canaima currently driving major national projects both public and private, among which are the Canaima Education Project, the Internet Plan CANTV equipped, among others..

OPERATING SYSTEM FEATURES CANAIMA
- Fully developed in Free Software.
- It is not limited to use in the APN, but can be used by anyone.
- It is equipped with office tools such as OpenOffice.org, (word processing, spreadsheets, presentations), graphic design, project planning and databases.
- It allows interaction with the Internet, through its website, email manager and applications for making phone calls over the network browser.
- It is stable and safe, based on the stable version of Debian GNU / Linux, which passes through a series of processes and rigorous quality testing.
- Held in Venezuela by local talent.

Like other distributions, Canaima GNU / Linux has several applications to perform office tasks, entertainment, development and configuration of the entire system. GNOME is the default interface. There are other unofficial versions maintained by the community with different desktops such as XFCE.
